new mantra just dropped
Joy Buolamwini (of AJL fame) dropped some fantastic words of wisdom in her latest newsletter 'proximity to magnificent power', wherein she reflects on speaking to Pope Leo XIV ahead of the publication of his AI encyclical.
she asks,
What invitations might you extend to others? Whose name can you bring into the halls of power? Whose work can you carry into rooms they may never enter?
at a time where i am: feverishly reading as much as i can about AI ethics; preparing a workshop on community research and AI for london data week; and starting a PhD in (the sociology of) AI safety - these are questions i'll be keeping at the front of my mind.
the goal is to become a gate opener for new, better ideas and ways of doing things.
